“Refer to PMBOK® Guide Guide and just one exam prep reference book as different authors with different approaches may confuse you at times.”

Nilesh Tandale passed the PMP® exam under the PMBOK® Guide Guide 5th Edition. He took 18 months for the preparation of his PMP® Certification, below is his lessons learned:

  • Began preparing for PMP® Certification in Mar 2012
  • Adjourned for many months due to family issues
  • The actual study took around 2-3 months
  • Read The PMP® Exam – How to Pass On Your First Try first
  • Get the 35 Contact Hours with PM PrepCast™
  • Read PMP® Exam Prep: Rita’s Course in a Book for Passing the PMP® Exam for additional information on the topics
  • Read PMBOK® Guide Guide from cover to cover once
  • Did a lot of PMP® practice exams
  • Read Lessons Learned by other successful PMP® exam takers
  • Took 2 breaks during the PMP® exam
  • Marked only 1 question for final review and did not change the answer
  • Encountered many questions related to earned value management and scheduling
  • Quality Management is a very important topic which appeared much in the exam questions

  • It is advised to study PMBOK® Guide and just one additional PMP® exam prep book as the approaches of different authors may confuse you at times
  • Practice as many practice exams as you can. Try at least 2 full-length practice exams.
  • Don’t procrastinate! Set up a plan to take the PMP® exam and stick with it.
