Nilesh Tandale passed the PMP® exam under the PMBOK® Guide Guide 5th Edition. He took 18 months for the preparation of his PMP® Certification, below is his lessons learned:
- Began preparing for PMP® Certification in Mar 2012
- Adjourned for many months due to family issues
- The actual study took around 2-3 months
- Read The PMP® Exam – How to Pass On Your First Try first
- Get the 35 Contact Hours with PM PrepCast™
- Read PMP® Exam Prep: Rita’s Course in a Book for Passing the PMP® Exam for additional information on the topics
- Read PMBOK® Guide Guide from cover to cover once
- Did a lot of PMP® practice exams
- Read Lessons Learned by other successful PMP® exam takers
- Took 2 breaks during the PMP® exam
- Marked only 1 question for final review and did not change the answer
- Encountered many questions related to earned value management and scheduling
- Quality Management is a very important topic which appeared much in the exam questions
Recommendations
- It is advised to study PMBOK® Guide and just one additional PMP® exam prep book as the approaches of different authors may confuse you at times
- Practice as many practice exams as you can. Try at least 2 full-length practice exams.
- Don’t procrastinate! Set up a plan to take the PMP® exam and stick with it.
